IB Physics HL A.2.3 Free-body diagrams
IB Physics HL A.2.3 Free-body diagrams

IB Physics syllabusFirst assessment 2025
Practise drawing free-body diagrams for one isolated object, with real forces only, correct directions, and labels you can turn into equations.
How this is tested
- draw a free-body diagram with labelled forces such as mg, tension, normal force, drag or buoyancy
- exclude forces the object exerts on others, and avoid vague labels like gravity instead of weight
- use the free-body diagram to resolve vector components and write the correct equilibrium or resultant equation
