How this is tested
- use a plotted HR-diagram position to identify a white dwarf, main-sequence star or red supergiant
- compare two stars on an HR diagram to decide which has greater temperature, luminosity or radius
- draw a future path on an HR diagram from the main sequence to red giant and then white dwarf
