IB Physics syllabusPhysics SL/HLFirst assessment 2025
Practise calculating internal energy changes for ideal gases from pV or temperature data, often within multi-step thermodynamic processes.
How this is tested
- calculate ΔU for a monatomic ideal gas using ΔU = 3/2 nRΔT or the equivalent pV form when temperature is not given
- use a constant-volume step to set W = 0, then link heat removed directly to the change in internal energy
- substitute pressure and volume changes carefully, checking J units when using expressions like ΔU = 3/2 pΔV
