Students practise using Lorentz transformations to convert event coordinates, compare time readings and show when simultaneity breaks between observers.
How this is tested
- substitute into Δt' = γ(Δt - vΔx/c^2) to find a moving observer's time for a signal or event
- show that simultaneous events in one frame are not simultaneous in another by evaluating Δt' when Δt = 0 but Δx ≠ 0
- determine x' and ct' from a spacetime diagram or Lorentz equations, reading intercepts parallel to the primed axes
