A.4.10 (HL)—Angular momentum conservation Topic Practice

IB Physics syllabusPhysics SL/HLFirst assessment 2025
Practise deciding when angular momentum is conserved and using it to compare speeds before and after changes in radius or collisions.
How this is tested
- decide if angular momentum is conserved by checking whether the chosen system has zero external torque
- apply conservation of angular momentum in collisions or sticking problems to find a new angular speed
- explain speed changes in orbits or spinning bodies by using L = mvr or L = Iω when r or I changes
