CAIE IGCSE Biology 22.1.2 Translating Biological Information

CAIE IGCSE Biology 22.1.2 Translating Biological Information
Cambridge IGCSE Biology 0610 syllabus for exams in 2026, 2027 and 20282026–2028

Practise translating biological information by reading carbon dioxide uptake and release values from a figure and entering them accurately in a numerical table.

How this is tested

  • read carbon dioxide uptake and release values from a figure to complete a numerical table

Question 3(b)(i)

[Maximum number: 2]

Scientists measured the rate of photosynthesis in the leaves of a sunflower plant, Helianthus annuus.

The scientists used the apparatus shown in Fig. 3.1 to measure the rate of photosynthesis.

Fig. 3.1

Fig. 3.1

The scientists carried out another investigation using the same apparatus at different temperatures.

They measured the rate of uptake of carbon dioxide in the light and then they measured the rate of release of carbon dioxide in the dark.

The results are shown in Fig. 3.2.
rate of carbon dioxide uptake and release /μg/ \mu \mathrm{g} per hour per cm2\mathrm{cm}^{2} of leaf

Use the information in Fig. 3.2 to complete Table 3.1.
