How to study Edexcel International GCSE Physics

Pearson Edexcel International GCSE Physics rewards more than equation recall. For every problem, move from the phenomenon to a diagram or graph, name the physical model, write the relationship in symbols, convert to SI units, substitute and check magnitude. Build that chain first in Forces and motion and Electricity, then transfer it across waves, energy, matter, electromagnetism, particles and astrophysics. Pair each core statement with its bold P extension so Paper 2 depth is explicit.

Edexcel International GCSE Physics assessment

Physics Paper 1P is a two-hour, 110-mark paper worth 61.1% and assesses core non-bold content. Paper 2P is a 75-minute, 70-mark paper worth 38.9% and assesses all content, including bold P depth. Both use all eight Topic areas, mixed question styles and calculators.

Edexcel International GCSE Physics 4PH1 questions

Paper 1P lasts two hours, carries 110 marks, contributes 61.1% and assesses core statements that are not bold and do not carry a P reference. Paper 2P lasts 75 minutes, carries 70 marks, contributes 38.9% and can assess all content, including bold P depth. Both draw from all eight physics areas.

No. The linear 4PH1 qualification does not have Foundation and Higher tiers. Some competitor pages label it Higher, but Pearson specifies one Physics qualification with core content assessed on Paper 1P and all content, including bold P statements, assessed on Paper 2P.

Pearson's current support update confirms a full equation sheet for International GCSE Physics examinations in 2025, 2026 and 2027. That is a time-bounded policy, not a permanent syllabus rule. You still need to select the correct relationship, rearrange it, substitute with SI units and check the resulting unit and magnitude.

Practise naming independent, dependent and controlled variables; selecting equipment and measurements; choosing a range and repeats; handling safety, graphs and anomalies; and proposing a method-specific improvement. Write what will be observed or calculated, not generic phrases such as repeat it or make it more accurate without explaining how.

They use the same eight Topic areas, but the statement-level depth differs. Paper 1P assesses core non-bold, non-P content; Paper 2P can assess the complete specification, including bold P statements. Use the objective metadata rather than a predicted-paper Topic list when deciding what belongs in each practice set.
