Practise explaining two-source patterns for light or sound, including fringe formation, resultant amplitude and energy redistribution.
How this is tested
- use a slit or wave diagram to explain fringes: diffraction at each source, then superposition at the screen
- calculate resultant amplitude at a point from path difference and the stated amplitudes of the two waves
- explain zero intensity at a minimum by stating that energy is redistributed into maxima elsewhere on the pattern
