Practise interpreting and explaining magnetic field patterns around magnets, wires and coils, including direction, relative strength and superposition with other fields.
How this is tested
- use the right-hand rule to decide whether the field at a point is into or out of the page around a wire
- explain stronger or weaker net B on either side of a current-carrying wire by adding or opposing fields
- interpret magnet or coil setups to choose the field pattern, uniform region or direction giving maximum deflection
