A.2.17—Impulse Topic Practice

IB Physics syllabusPhysics SL/HLFirst assessment 2025
Practise using impulse as change in momentum to calculate average force, contact time and post-impact quantities for rebounds and collisions.
How this is tested
- calculate impulse from Δp = m(v - u), taking care with sign when an object rebounds and reverses direction
- use Favg = Δp/Δt to determine contact time or average resultant force during an impact or catch
- link a given impulse to final speed or kinetic energy by first finding the momentum change of the object
