Practise identifying background radiation from tables and graphs, then correcting measured count rates before interpreting radioactive decay data.
How this is tested
- read the non-zero constant level on a decay graph or table as the background count rate
- calculate a later measured count by decaying the source count first, then adding the constant background back in
- suggest why activity levels off above zero, for example background radiation or a systematic counter offset
