S2.1.2—Designing investigations Topic Practice

IB Physics syllabusPhysics SL/HLFirst assessment 2025
Practise designing investigations by selecting independent, dependent and controlled variables, improving method, and justifying ranges and repeats.
How this is tested
- explain why a variable such as m is kept constant so the effect of the chosen independent variable can be isolated
- suggest a concrete control, such as release angle or cable dimensions, that must stay fixed for a fair test
- propose method improvements like wider temperature range or repeated diameter readings to reduce random uncertainty
