How this is tested

  • calculate Q from mass defect in u using 931.5 MeV u^-1, including electron mass if the equation needs it
  • show a stated decay energy by subtracting initial and final masses, then convert Δm into MeV
  • compare fusion and fission by calculating energy released per unit mass from converted mass defects
