Interpret electrochemical cell diagrams by identifying electrodes, tracking electron and ion movement, and predicting what changes at each electrode.

How this is tested

  • identify anode and cathode in voltaic and electrolytic cells, and state that reduction occurs at the cathode
  • deduce electron flow and salt-bridge ion movement, e.g. electrons from Ni to Ag and anions to Fe half-cell
  • predict electrode changes from the setup, including mass gain or loss and the half-equation at each electrode
