Practise force-extension practical questions by matching the measured quantity to the apparatus used in spring or rubber-band tests.
A student investigates how the extension of a spring varies when the mass attached to the spring is changed.
The diagram shows most of the equipment the student uses in the investigation.

Describe a method the student could use for the investigation.
Your description should include the measurements taken and how the student could obtain accurate results.
Any five from:
- measure original length of spring
- measure new length / extension for a range of masses
- extension = new length - original length
- use a ruler
- avoid parallax, e.g. look at eye level or use a pointer
- use a set square / clamp ruler vertically
- measure between the same two points on the spring
- repeat and average
- measure extension with decreasing mass as well
Accept:
- any marking points if seen on diagram
- tape measure
- repeating to identify anomalies
