Paper 1 lasts 1 hour 30 minutes and is worth 36%. Paper 1A contains 30 multiple-choice questions and Paper 1B contains data-based and experimental-work questions, for 55 marks in total.
Paper 2 lasts 1 hour 30 minutes, is worth 44% and carries 50 marks. It contains short-answer and extended-response questions on SL material.
The first-assessment-2025 course is organised around Structure and Reactivity, with 110 hours of syllabus content within 150 recommended teaching hours.
Practise SL-tagged Paper 1A, Paper 1B and Paper 2 questions, then compare calculations, chemical reasoning, units and significant figures with the stored mark guidance. The scientific investigation remains a separate 20% internal assessment.
