Paper 1 lasts 2 hours and is worth 36%. Paper 1A contains 40 multiple-choice questions and Paper 1B contains data-based and experimental-work questions, for 75 marks in total.
Paper 2 lasts 2 hours 30 minutes, is worth 44% and carries 90 marks. It contains short-answer and extended-response questions on SL and additional higher level material.
HL includes the common Structure and Reactivity framework plus additional higher level depth. The guide recommends 180 hours of syllabus content within 240 teaching hours, compared with 110 syllabus hours at SL.
Practise HL-tagged Paper 1A, Paper 1B and Paper 2 questions, checking calculations, chemical models, evaluation, units and significant figures against the stored mark guidance. The scientific investigation remains a separate 20% internal assessment.
