Practise IB Biology SL 1.1.4 by describing PCR amplification and separating DNA fragments by gel electrophoresis.
Outline the use of polymerase chain reaction (PCR) to copy and amplify minute quantities of DNA.
strands of DNA (fragments) split/denatured with heat;
complementary nucleotides added to split stands (when cooling);
with the use of (DNA) polymerase (and primers); process/heating and cooling cycle is repeated (until enough DNA is obtained);
example of PCR application; (e.g. paternity cases or forensic investigations)
Remember, up to TWO "quality of construction" marks per essay.
