IB Chemistry SL 1.2.2 Isotopes
IB Chemistry syllabusFirst assessment 2025

Practise isotope questions by comparing neutron numbers, calculating relative atomic mass from abundances, and judging which molecular properties stay unchanged.

How this is tested

  • contrast isotopes by stating the neutron change, for example ^81Br has two more neutrons than ^79Br
  • calculate relative atomic mass from isotope percentages, such as bromine = 79.99 from 50.75% and 49.25%
  • distinguish unchanged molecular properties in isotopic molecules, such as the dipole moment in ^3H2O and ^1H2O
