Practise planning magnetic field investigations with bar magnets, using compasses or iron filings to show pattern and direction.
The region of space around a magnet is known as a magnetic field.
Describe an investigation that could be used to determine the shape of the magnetic field around a bar magnet.
Either:
- use a plotting compass
- use multiple compasses or repeat with a single compass
- join up the dots / idea of compasses forming continuous lines
Or:
- use iron filings
- sprinkle the filings
- tap the card to reveal the pattern
Marking guidance:
