Practise planning and analysing a glass-block refractive index practical using angle measurements, repeats, graphs and gradient methods.
A student does an investigation to determine the refractive index of a block made from flint glass.
She directs a ray of red light at the block, as shown in diagram 1.

Diagram 1
Describe how the student could improve her investigation to obtain a more reliable value of the refractive index.
Any three from:
- take repeat readings at a specific angle
- vary angle of incidence
- find mean values for one angle i / mean refractive index
- plot graph of sin(i) against sin(r)
- find refractive index from gradient of graph
Ignore:
- bald repeat and average
- repeat investigation
