Outline the features of ecosystems that make them sustainable.
Satellite imagery has been used for many years in the Amazon rainforest to monitor deforestation. Annual deforestation can be calculated using data from several satellites that have varying levels of accuracy. The graph shows the area of the Amazon rainforest that was deforested each year from 2001 to 2019, calculated using satellite images.
The Amazon rainforest currently releases very large amounts of water vapour into the atmosphere through transpiration. Suggest one consequence of this.
An investigation into food web interactions was conducted in mesocosms in the Mediterranean Sea, off the coast of France. The effects of the addition of soil and fish on bacterial populations were tested.
Suggest advantages of undertaking this experiment in the sea rather than in the laboratory.
