Exam points

  • Estimate the order of magnitude or a plausible range for a physical quantity by comparing it with familiar scales and examples.
  • Convert prefixes, units and powers of ten consistently when judging whether a current, mass, force, volume, energy or other quantity is reasonable.
  • Use simple physical relationships and scale reasoning to estimate derived quantities such as kinetic energy, momentum, density, volume or particle count.
  • Select the most reasonable estimate, identify values wrong by a large factor, and communicate the estimate with appropriate units and precision.
