Practise using CMBR and galaxy red-shift as evidence for the Big Bang, including wavelength changes as the universe expands.
The Big Bang theory suggests that the Universe is approximately 14 billion years old.
Describe the evidence that supports the Big Bang theory.
Any four from:
- presence of cosmic microwave background radiation
- CMBR comes from all directions
- CMBR began as gamma radiation and wavelength increased as the Universe expanded
- red-shift of galaxies
- further / faster galaxies show a greater red-shift
- red-shift indicates that galaxies are moving away from each other
- relative abundance of helium
- helium formed when the Universe was hot enough to fuse protons
Accept:
- CMBR
- CMBR is uniform
- large amount of helium
