Case studies

Case studies.

  • Candidates should be able to:.
  • describe the case study method, including the main features: a single participant/unit; studied in detail.
  • evaluate the use of case studies in psychological research.
  • apply knowledge of case studies to a given novel research scenario.

This matters because case studies determines what can be inferred or chosen; begin with the stated conditions and keep the conclusion tied to the evidence.

Example: apply case studies to one small, clearly defined case, show the key step or comparison, and explain the result in words.

Boundary: Case studies is not a universal recommendation. Check the syllabus scope, assumptions, units and the limits of the evidence before generalising.
