CAIE A-Level Mathematics 3.9.4 Argand Diagrams
Cambridge International AS & A Level Mathematics 9709 syllabus for exams in 2028, 2029 and 20302028–2030

Practise plotting complex numbers on Argand diagrams and using coordinates, arguments, gradients and distances to establish angles, axes conditions and geometric relationships.

How this is tested

  • plot x + iy at coordinates (x, y) using a consistent real-axis and imaginary-axis scale
  • use argument differences or line gradients to calculate an angle at the origin
  • translate equal lengths, axes positions or equilateral geometry into algebraic conditions

Question 5(b)

[Maximum number: 1]

On a sketch of an Argand diagram with origin O, show points A and B representing the roots of the equation in part (a).
