Core candidates take Paper 1, a 1 hour 30 minute non-calculator paper, and Paper 3, a 1 hour 30 minute calculator paper. Each paper is worth 80 marks and 50% of the qualification.

Candidates entered for the Core route are eligible for grades C to G under the 2028–2030 syllabus.
