Exam points

  • write 2SO2 + O2 ⇌ 2SO3 with correct balancing and a reversible arrow
  • identify the vanadium(V) oxide-catalysed step in the Contact process from reaction lists
  • link sulfuric acid manufacture to the Contact process without confusing it with Haber

6.3.8—Symbol equation for the conversion of question 1

[Maximum number: 2]

Sulfur is an important element.

Sulfuric acid is manufactured by the Contact process. One step in the Contact process involves a reversible reaction in which sulfur trioxide, SO3\mathrm{SO}_{3}, is formed.

Write a chemical equation for this reversible reaction. Include the correct symbol to show that the reaction is reversible.
