Use exam questions to combine bond dipoles with molecular geometry and decide when a molecule is polar or non-polar.
The element boron has two naturally occurring isotopes, 10 B and 11 B.
Predict and explain whether the molecules NH3 and BF3 are polar molecules.
BF3 not polar as no net dipole moment / BF bond polarities cancel each other out / symmetrical distribution of charge;
NH3 polar as net dipole moment present / NH bond polarities do not cancel each other out / unsymmetrical distribution of charge;
