Edexcel IGCSE Chemistry 3.14C reaction profile diagrams

Practise reaction-profile questions by drawing energy curves, labelling Ea and ΔH, and comparing catalysed profile peaks.

Syllabus

Chemistry 4CH1

Exam points

  • Draw reactant and product energy levels in the correct positions for exothermic or endothermic reactions.
  • Label Ea from reactants to the peak and ΔH between reactant and product levels.
  • Compare catalysed and uncatalysed profiles using a lower activation energy peak.

3.14C Reaction profile diagrams question 1

[Maximum number: 2]

Hydrogen peroxide solution decomposes slowly at room temperature to form water and oxygen.

The equation for the reaction is

2H2O22H2O+O22 \mathrm{H}_{2} \mathrm{O}_{2} \rightarrow 2 \mathrm{H}_{2} \mathrm{O}+\mathrm{O}_{2}

The decomposition of hydrogen peroxide solution is exothermic.

On the diagram, draw and label the reaction profiles for the reaction
- without a catalyst
- with a catalyst
