Exam points

  • draw an alkene monomer from a displayed addition polymer section
  • draw three repeat units with single C-C bonds and correctly placed side groups
  • choose the monomer or polymer diagram that matches a given repeat unit

11.8.7—Deduce the structure or repeat unit of question 1

[Maximum number: 2]

Fluorine is a Group VII element. Fluorine forms compounds with metals and non-metals.

Tetrafluoroethene is an unsaturated compound with the formula C2 F4\mathrm{C}_{2} \mathrm{~F}_{4}. Tetrafluoroethene is the monomer used to make the polymer poly(tetrafluoroethene).

Tetrafluoroethene can be polymerised to form poly(tetrafluoroethene).

Draw one repeat unit of poly(tetrafluoroethene). Show all of the atoms and all of the bonds.
