CAIE IGCSE Physics Refraction of Light Question Bank

Practise refraction ray diagrams and calculations using normals, refractive index, light speed, critical angle and total internal reflection in optical fibres.

Syllabus
2026–2028
Course
Physics 0625

Exam points

  • measure incidence and refraction angles from the normal and use the correct sine ratio
  • calculate refractive index or light speed using n = sin i/sin r or n = c/v
  • apply the critical-angle conditions and trace repeated total internal reflection in a fibre

3.2.2 Refraction of light question 1

[Maximum number: 5]

A ray of light is incident on a soap film. Fig. 5.1 shows a magnified image of a small part of the soap film. The ray of light is refracted as it enters the soap film.
