How to study Edexcel International GCSE Mathematics A Foundation
Pearson Edexcel International GCSE Mathematics A Foundation assesses the full tier on both papers, so build reliable methods rather than separate Paper 1F and 2F Topic lists. Start with applying number and ratio and proportion before connecting algebra, geometry and data. Both papers allow calculators, but Pearson examiner evidence rewards visible setup, intermediate stages, units and accuracy decisions that can earn method marks when the final answer is wrong.
Reconstruct the method in Concept and retrieve facts, notation, formulas and calculator operations in Mastery. Apply them through the Foundation Question Bank using unseen contexts. Classify the first failure as knowledge, translation, method, accuracy or reading and units, repair only the two or three weakest Topics and retest. Edexcel International GCSE Mathematics A Foundation assessment
Foundation candidates take Papers 1F and 2F. Each two-hour calculator paper is worth 100 marks and 50%, and either may assess any Foundation content. The available grade range is 5–1; Foundation still includes substantial problem solving and reasoning.

Edexcel International GCSE Mathematics A Foundation questions
No. Either paper may assess any part of the full Foundation content. Both last two hours, carry 100 marks and contribute 50%. Use Topic practice to diagnose and repair methods, then mix all Foundation areas across both paper positions rather than memorising a Paper 1 list and a Paper 2 list.
Yes. A suitable electronic calculator is permitted on Papers 1F and 2F, but Pearson restricts text or formula retrieval, QWERTY keyboards and symbolic algebra functions. Show the setup and intermediate stages, retain unrounded values and include units so your mathematical method remains clear even if the final input or rounding is wrong.
The Foundation formulae sheet includes the area of a trapezium, volume of a prism, volume of a cylinder and curved surface area of a cylinder. It does not provide every relationship required by the tier. Learn when each supplied formula applies and retrieve the remaining Foundation facts, notation and methods yourself.
The Foundation tier targets grades 5–1. Raw grade boundaries vary by examination series, so this page does not promise a grade from a fixed mark. If you are considering the Higher tier, discuss entry with your school or centre rather than importing Higher-only Topics into Foundation revision.
The local Foundation map excludes four whole Higher-only Topics: Proportion, Function notation, Calculus and Vectors. It also filters Higher-only objectives inside shared Topic names. Use this tier-specific map and Question Bank rather than assuming that every resource labelled Mathematics A matches the Foundation statement-level scope.
