IKEA is a well-known home furniture retailer with stores throughout the world. It was started in 1943 by Ingvar Kamprad when he was given some money by his father for doing well at school. He wanted to produce furniture at a price that people could afford to buy.
He realised that transporting furniture to customers was difficult as goods were often damaged. He developed flat packs to avoid damage. A flat pack contained all the materials needed to self-assemble a table, a chair or a bed.
All IKEA stores are run as franchises.
An IKEA dining table costs IKEA 3800 SEK to make. The table sells for 4400 SEK.

One of TADS' objectives is to expand by giving lessons for different musical instruments. To do this it will need to analyse its financial position.
Define the term liquidity.
AO1 = 1 mark
Award 1 mark for the correct definition of liquidity.
- Liquidity is how easily a business can change its assets into cash (1).
TADS is looking to increase its revenue.
TADS is considering the following two options:
Option 1: teach other musical instruments
Option 2: increase the number of online drum lessons.
Justify which one of these two options TADS should choose.
AO2 = 3 marks AO3 = 3 marks AO4 = 3 marks
AO2
- Option 1 - Teaching other musical instruments will bring in new music students and revenue.
- Option 2 - By offering online lessons more students will be able to take drum lessons and therefore increase revenue.
A03
- Option 1 - This would increase its target market due to the wider range of musical instruments being offered leading to an increase in revenue.
- Option 2 - This would increase revenue as more students can be taught at the same time in different locations around the country and the world.
AO4
- Option 1 - However, although this may lead to more revenue for the business it would need to find and pay additional teachers to provide this service.
- Option 2 - However, there could be technical issues that might lead to lessons being interrupted and not delivered, giving TADS a bad reputation.
