Edexcel A-Level Physics A2 C 4 3 Areas and Volumes Questions question 1
[Maximum number: 2]
A student made measurements of the plastic protractor shown.
The student determined the volume V of the plastic protractor from the measurements shown. The student recorded the following measurements. D = 10.10 cm ± 0.05 cm x = 4.5 mm ± 0.1 mm t = 1.40 mm ± 0.02 mm
Show that V is about 6.2cm3.
Uses V = (area of semicircle + area of rectangle) x thickness. V = 6.24 cm^3.
Example: Volume of semicircle = pi x (10.1 cm)^2 x 0.14 cm / 8 = 5.608 cm^3 Volume of rectangle = 10.1 cm x 0.45 cm x 0.14 cm = 0.636 cm^3 V = 5.608 + 0.636 = 6.24 cm^3
