Astrid wants to get the better value for money for the oil.

From which company should she buy her oil, Dane Oil or Arctic Oil? You must show your working.

Litres per amount of money route:
$\frac{8.6\times10^5}{770000}=1.1168\ldots\ \text{litres per dollar}$ $\frac{4.2\times10^5}{2500000}=0.168\ \text{litres per Krone}$ $0.168\times6.57=1.10376\ \text{litres per dollar}$

Since $1.1168\ldots>1.10376\ldots$ , Astrid should buy from Arctic Oil.

Equivalent cost per litre route:
$\frac{2500000}{4.2\times10^5}=5.952\ldots\ \text{Krone per litre}$ $\frac{770000}{8.6\times10^5}=0.895\ldots\ \text{dollars per litre}$ $0.895\ldots\times6.57=5.882\ldots\ \text{Krone per litre}$
so Arctic Oil is cheaper per litre.
