AHL 5.17 (HL)—Areas and volumes of revolution question 1

[Maximum number: 6]

Consider the function defined by f(x)=kx5xkf(x)=\frac{k x-5}{x-k}, where xR\{k}x \in \mathbb{R} \backslash\{k\} and k25k^{2} \neq 5.

The region bounded by the x-axis, the curve y=f(x), and the lines x=5 and x=7 is rotated through 2π2 \pi about the x-axis. Find the volume of the solid generated, giving your answer in the form π(a+bln2)\pi(a+b \ln 2), where a,bZa, b \in \mathbb{Z}.
